My dearest Daugther Lovis Hello how are you to day I would sure like

I am
sorry I could not write last Sarturday as I said on the card I sent you last
Thursday but honestly had had a bad headache I could not think and yesterday I
felt better only my head was and is very sore. but then as you know there is no
mailcarier come on Sunday, your very welcome letter written in the shoe
reaparing shop been recived and it’s contents made me feel like crying for joy
and thanking the Lord I know the Gospel of Jesus Christ it true that’s been
reveled through Joseph Smith the latter days Prophet when he prayed unto the Lord
to let him know wich church was tight and the Lord answered him and said that
none was true and as you know so fort[h] and so on but as we read along that
each time before the Angel Moroni and other Hole men visited Joseph he bowed in
humble prayer and asked God to let him know the truth conserning this Latter
Days work for the salvation for the living and the dead, and so it is for us to
do to pray humbly and sincerely about things we would like to know conserning
our individual salvation first and then it will reach out to others as we grow
in obedience to the laws that will bring us back to the presence of our
Heavenly Father and in the knowledge of the Gospel plan of our salvation
we have had some awful stormy
weather here for some time last nigth it turned clear and cold so this morning
our pump were froze up and it was thick ice on the tub we use to water the cows
in, I wonder if you thaugth about what happened 5 years ago last nigth I am
sure I di so after I went to bed I thaugth O dear me what a great change in our
family it makes me feel like I am lost intarly [entirely] and I am wondering
what changes there will be in the next 5 years, well dearest Lovis I guess you
can tell how I feel without saying any more. [31 Mar 1919 was when Caroline’s daughter Annie died. She was the 3rd
child of Caroline & Edward to die within 3 months from the 1918 Spanish Flu
epidemic. Tough, tough times for the family!!! --CDS, 2011]
I wonder if you will get the
little box to day I sent last Thursday by express sometime I feel ashamed of
sending you bread, I am sorry the butter is not at all good but you can use it
for cooking if you dont put in to much of it at onece [once] I like to have
sent you some egges but the chickens have not laid an egg during this cold
weather I belive we got 4 eggs yesterday for the first time for the last two
weeks. I am glad you went to hear Professor Thomas do you remember who his vife
is it is one of the Eliason sister or a sister to your Music teacher Mrs
Hansen.
Arthur went to town this morning
to see a man about farmwork the mans name is Smith and he lives at Smithfield
and they were to meet at the electric power Company and make arangements I hope
Arthur will get a job, theere is plenty of work rigth home here for him to do
but Arthur feels that he dont get anything for it so consequently he dont feel
like doing much and when he does anything it can in no way suit Pa, and so if
he gets a job I hope they will be good to him and teach him in a kind way how
the[y] want their work done and tell him what and how to do it and that Arthur
will try to do all he can to plaese the men or family he works for.
Well Lovis I can not over come
my unmannerly way of asking questions or bother you in some way all the time
but what became of your big cat when you moved? Are you living in a house were
[where] no one else lives in, have you bougth the place? I hope the dog you
been or are getting will watch you good if you live in a house were [where] not
any other people live, have you got good and close neabors?
In the place were [where] Frank
works they have the radio and so some evenings he stayes after working hours
and listens to the wonderful concerts that are held sometimes at San Fransisco
and sometimes at Las Angelse FO. Is very much interested Annie told me that
sometimes Frank dont come home untill 11 at nights and that he is crazy to have
a radio put into the house were [where] they live but Annie dont want him to.
It is time for dinner but before
I close this letter I shall tell you a little news, Howard Ferguson and Litha
King is sweethearts and the rumors is that the[y] will soon get married I saw
them in Meeting sitting close to gather they are sure a cute coupple to look at
I wonder how Vanetta is getting along, do you ever see her? give my love to
your husbaund and except a bushel of love for yourself from you Mother C.J.
