My dearest Daughter,
I just got
in being outside all morning pulling weeds for the pigs and gleaning
raspberryes and red currants and while I am watching the jam a cooking and
while I am sitting down to rest I will write letter. Your letter off the 27 off
July was recived last Monday. I had the blues so darn bad that day I am sure
glad you are well and happy.
It seemes
funny about the mail I know I write often to you but I don’t know why you dont
hear from as often as you expeckt. I have written 3 letters in a few days to
you and address them to 2126 Haste St .
and I mailed the cooking recpiees by that same address to.
We have had
a letter from Abie yesterday he said he stayes with Fred and his wife at Salt Lake
Ut and his address is
Arthur F. Roskelley
Arthur do
not say anything about where he been or what he was a doing only he says he
been washing his Uniform and that Fred was going to get him civil clothes and
that Fred and Auntie Dea was good to him.
We had
another very hard elecktric storm here last evening. Your Dad got awful
nerveous he walked the floor and went from one door to another and watched the
lighthning. He said he saw one stroke struck a rod or two below our barn. I sat
in the big room in the big rocking chair trying to read it lasted for 2 hours and
½ . There was no rain with the storm to speak off and the sky looked as if it
was a sea off fire. it is real pleasant weather this forenoon.
last evening was the first evening
or day that your Br F.O. did not come out I suppose the storm stopped him home.
last Monday evening after school he came and he had a good size paper sack full
of new potatoes carrying and smileing and said this is for you Ma and handed me
the sack. it seems as his name should have been Joseph off old instead off
Franklin O. I guess he will soon be out off school he have learned to quick so
he said he will only have this mounthy school and then off course the payment
will stop. his instrucktor have applied for an 6 months exstention for F.O. but
he have not got any answer on it yet. I do hope he will get an exectention.
Gladys Nyman stopped here this
morning while on her way down to Mrs Teart to pick currants she said she would
sure be glad to tell you hello. Leitha King have gave me her sister Vanettas
addras as mebe you like to have it so I shall here give it to you. Miss Vanetta
King 1649 Hayes Street, San Fransisco California .
Now my dar Lovis we hope to be able
to live so we can be worthy off some day live in a place wheere theere be no
parting it is now sometime since you said you been to church plaese do not
forget your resolution if you do you will not be able to fullfill your intended
mission.
I wonder if Mrs Arthur come to see
you as you expeckted her to have Mr Arthur got work now and did you have a good
visit with each other. I have worte to Mrs Arthur but have not recived an
answer.
Well this is some what a to lengthy
a letter mebe your fruit will spoil when or while you have so much reading to
do. I get so lonesome so I don’t care if I don’t work. I must take time to
write you know that before and as I can not remember mebe I write about the
same thing in every letter I write to you but I am rather nerveous.
I got some very nice sckorfor [or sckorpon; ?] and I think I shall go
down to sister Cronquist this afternonn and take some sckorpor [?] to her and we shall have coffee
togather. she have asked me to help her write a letter to her Brother in Sweden
so I think I shall go after the mailman have passed and help her write.
I will now close and get dinner
your Dad gets hungry four a five times a day. give my regard to Dr White and my
best love to you both my two dearies.
Your Mother
Caroline J. Peterson
I have enclosed a letter that’s
been returned. have you seen my lady friend and that Elderly man you know who
just to stop outside the place we lived and lean against a tree and eat. and
have you seen that cross looking lady that clerked in the little store north of
Mathews.
