Peterson
home in North Logan (Greenville), Utah
 |
1893, Peterson Greenville farm (9.65 acres) purchased.
Rough land borders were: west, along the canal; north, 1900 North, and east,
1200 East. A strip of land along 1800 North was also purchased from Carl Nyman
in 1894. The family built their house facing 1200 East and moved in during
1894.
The west portion of the 9.65 acres was sold in 1895 to
Edward Peterson’s brother-in-law, August Sjostrom, leaving 4.66 acres for the
Petersons. In 1895, the land was put solely into Caroline’s name.
After Caroline died in 1927, the 4.66 acres (land and
house) was deeded to Caroline and Edward’s daughter, Grace Peterson Johnson.
Grace died in 1972 and the land was evenly divided between her three children:
Darold, Irene, and Carl.
Irene died in 2001 and her land (along 1900 North) was
sold. Houses have now been built on this portion of the original Peterson farm.
Carl had the middle portion of land and built a home
along 1200 East during the 1960s-1970s, next to the original Peterson home. The
land has since been sub-divided and his children have built homes along “Grace
Lane.”
Darold’s portion of land has been leased and farmed
all these years. He died in 2012 and last time I drove by 1200 East (January
2014), it was still being farmed.

shown.
|
 |
2001, east side of Peterson home. 1200 East
has been widened and built up several times so most of the land in front of the
Peterson home is gone. Tree on right side of house is original (compare to 1894
photo).

Edward
and Caroline
 |
1883, circa, Caroline (near time she and Edward
married)
|
 |
1897, Peterson family. Back row (l to r): Annie,
Arthur, Minnie. Front row (l to r): Frank, Caroline, Grace. Louise used to show
us this photo and ask, “Where was I? I was in Ma’s belly so even I didn’t miss out
on this family picture!” And then she’d laugh and laugh.
|
 |
1910, circa. Formal photo taken so Caroline could give
a “nice picture” of herself to Edward.
|
 |
1915, circa. Caroline and Edward in front yard. This
is just one of two pictures we have of Edward as he didn’t like having his
picture taken. Notice the newspaper. Caroline and Edward were voracious
readers, especially of newspapers.

1917, circa, Caroline. Extracted from “Greenville
Relief Society” photo (see NL Misc “tab”)
|
 |
February 1919. Caroline holding grandsons (l to r)
Darold (Grace) and Russell (Minnie). Louise used to say that the reason
Caroline looked so sad was because in the previous two months she’d lost two of
her children (Arthur, Minnie) from the Spanish Influenza. Standing woman unknown.

1921, circa. Caroline in front of son Frank in his
car.

 |
1923, circa, San Diego. Visiting grandson Joseph
Roskelley. (l to r) daughter Louise, Joe, Caroline, possibly Julie Ricks.
|
 |
1925, circa, Caroline. Photo taken in a studio as there’s
a palm tree in the picture.
|
 |
1926, circa. Edward siting in field on his North Logan
farm.
|
 |
1926, circa. Caroline in their farm’s lane with
grandchildren Irene and Darold Johnson (Grace). The lane began on 1200 East and
went west to their barn. Their house was to the left (north) of the lane.
|
 |
1927, Caroline. Granddaughter Audrey Peterson (Arthur)
said this picture was taken 3 weeks before Caroline died on 15 Nov 1927. I
wonder if she meant 3 months, not 3 weeks (see leaves on
trees and lack of cold weather clothing).
