My dearest folks at Berkeley California
your Dad
is just walking down the road mebe he will catch a ride if he dont he will walk
all the way he is going to send a small box to you that I wrapped up this
morning so to have it leave Logan on the noontrain to day, when you opens the
box you will find a few eggs in side the chicken wrapped in paper I thaugth I
tell you so you would not drop them and broke them if they are not already
broken when you get them, I hpoe you dont think I sent thoose few and lots of
slices of bakon for you to fry I put them in for you to use along with the
chicken because it is not at all fat, I mean the chicken.
It is
snowing here to day and the snow is comming down so very thick I opened the
door to see if I could see your Dad going down below A.L. Kings but I oculd not
see any farther then to Hughes on the account of it snowing so hard. We recived
your letter last Sarturday and I was sure glad to hear from you it helped me to
feel better than I have for I have sure felt mean and hateful and have had many
evil and imaginary thaugths I am glad you are feeling better and that you like
the place you now live at I know you are very cozy with all our new furniture
and other nice and new things,
Soo you
been to City it is good you been getting what you have wished for was one of
thoose two Ladys you speak about being with you to City that you spoke to in
Brakes store that day we bougth that table cloth you said her name in your
letter but F.O. got your letter he wanted to let Annie read it and so I have
forgoten her name. I will now ask you to send me a measurment of your pillow cases I thaugth it be best if I put the
feathers in the thicking [ticking?] as I get the feathers cured and sew the
pillows upp before I send them and as I dont know what size I thaugth it best
if I get it and before I put it any other cloth wich do not hold feathers.
I am
glad and thankful you sends your Dad the News Papers we have now recived three
since I got home your Dad sure enjoys reading them and I do to but as you know
I dont understand all what I read you Dad tells me all about it, I think it
awful about Kels but that is just the pay thoose people get who brakes the law
and serves the devil.
I will
send you a Deseret News mebe you would like to read about the Brownings and
Balentyne case.
I would
like for you to read on the front page about President Grants birthday party
for instant.
When I
read about Mrs Smith dying suddenly while she was getting ready to leave and go
to her sick daugther I thaugth of Floyd and you how carful you were about
telling me the truth about you bein gisck I sure now apriciate your
thoughtfulness mebe if I knew the truth I would of imagen worser things then it
was and mebe had not been able to have gone.
Did you
find your knife and the little old teaspoon? I put the knife in the other box I
sent I made two boxes of soap lat sarturday and had pretty good luck with it
and I put down the rug on the floor in the little eastroom and we think it
looks nice now. I am peeling and putting up apple to day I want to put upp
about 25 quarts Loui Wilhelm gave Pa about 75 bushells off just lovely apples
while I was away I been sorting them and putting a lot off them in boxes ot
have fresh for the winter as long as they will keep I wish I could send a box
to you of them apples they are fine for eating and baking to.
I am glad you have written to Grace I guess
the parsel did not get lost how do you like its contents, FOs finger is not
doing very good it got infection in it now and it is feared that a part off it
got to be amputated, his vife and children is just fine now.
your Dad
is sure a vey sick man he has pain all the time in his chest and inspecial on
the left side I guess if he gets much worse he vont be able to cut or saw a bit
off wood or do any of the choores at all or any other work. If I only could
convince him to see Pher Wilhelm I belive he could give him some medicine that
would relif him if he could not be cured I sure suffers with him it can not be
advoided because he cauphs and growns [groans] all nigth untill about 6 a m he
gets quitter [quieter] and have a little rest but then I gets up I can not lay
in bed but must get up to do schoores and have my coffee and about 8 30 a m I
bring Pa his coffee before he gets upp the poor soul here he is now he had come
back from town already but now the water have stopped on him and he is now
using the instrument [? Don’t know what she’s referring to. enema?] Always
something and troubble never comes single theere is generally complications.
your Dad
was reading in the Chronicles last evening about the institution at Oakland
named Kings Daugthers home for incurables at 3900 Broadway and he said he had a
good notion to go to it mebe they could do something for him theere and wheere
it is not so cold as it is here, but I like for him to go and see Dr Eliason
before deciding. Do you know anything about this institution? Mebe if you will
or can find out anything about it to let us know for something got to be done.
I wonder
if you went to church last evening or to Sunday school in the morning? I
understand your recommend been sent from here to Berkeley but been sent back
here to be more coreckt it should be sent in your husbaunds name also and to
Oakland Branch, and by whom you was married I dont know if I was rigth but I
said you were married by civil if this was wrong mebe you will have to corect
it to. so Joe been sick I have not heard him say altho I have heard from him
real often what’s been the matter with him has he told you?
I went
to meeting yesterday afternoon and Bishop Kemp gave me a recomend for the
Temple and our Dad had it signed to day by President Gorge Lindquist so now I
shall get my duds ready so if I see a change [chance] to go for a day or so I
will be ready to go and do some one a little good. Well dearies I think and
think and plan and plan when I am as it were here so much alone untill my head
feels like it’s in a cramp so I will be glad if I can go to the Temple.
I like
to ask you to plaese send me Mrs Alcocks addrass, and remember me to her next
time you see her.
This
letter have a lot off things in that I will ask you to plaese be so kind and
answer me on. This letter is for Floyd as well as for you Lovis but I will ask
you to give Floyd my best both Love & regard will close with Love as every
your
Mother
C.J. Peterson
P.S. Your Dad says that he belives the mail guy in the
Postoffice made a mistake in the Zone to day in the charge for the little box
we sent to day. and it should be 44 cent and they charged only 31 cent we migth
get to hear about it you or us either and to pay the differents but If they
dont say anything it is alrigth because it is not our fault. Why are they so
particular sometime and so careless other times, I am sure dissgusted with our
Mail carier or the guy that comes out on this Route.
I have heard from Jennie Audriey is feeling better she
been out of the hospital for one week now and are getting along fine.
