My der baby Lovis

It is snowing here this morning the ground is all covered with snow and the snow is comming down in big flakes. How are you my dear babyes this morning I wish I knew rigth now I can not remember if it is my turn to write or not but very likely it is as it seemes quite a while since I wrote to you I get very lonesome at times and the time seemes longer than it really is.

It is now 2 years and one week since you and Floyd took me to the Depot at Berkeley for me to leave for home and it is some over one year since I took you to the station at Logan for you to leave for Berkeley I am thankful that all been as well with us as it been all this time since we last saw each other.

I went to Ogden last Sunday to visit Arthur I walked to the N. Logan spur and got the inturban 9 45 a m car to Logan and then as the Company have changed their schelude [schedule] and instead of traveling in their long black cars the[y] have couches something like the sigth seeing cars at SL [Salt Lake] only much smaller that goes between Logan and Ogden and so I rode in one of them and see if I was not nerveaus going through the Wellsville canion so I promised myself I vont never go in one to them again I rather take the Oregon Shortline, I went down all alone this time I got down to Ogden at 12 15 and bougth ice cream & stuff such as candy and gum to give Arthur I had cake and cookies with me that I had with me from home. Arthur was well but O dear a very lonesome boy he was glad to see me and I was glad to see him and I felt well paid for my effort to go and see him. I felt as usual that comming or meeting is fine but parting is hard and I know it will never be anything else for me.

Arthur been working on the farm all fall and ever since the[y] got the crop in he been plowing with 3 head a breast and a sulky plow, I meet 4 of the men Officers and two Lady officers and they all told me Arthur was doing fine and if he kept on it would not be long before he will be out the boys are divided in companyes A & B. A suppose to be the best and Arthur belong to it and is an officer in Co A. he dont feel well about being down there and he sure got a revenge full feeling to ward Andrew B & Follett I talked and talked and tryed to convince him not to encourage that feeling as it will just make things worst I told him that a person got to take a lot in this world not only him but everybody

the boys down theere is sure not kept in very nice clothes so we shall try to send him some to wear on Sunday.  he had a good suit when he went down but that are worn out as he been there now for 7 mounths he had pretty good every day shoes and overals but a poor shirt and a poor old sweater, Arthur took me all round the place last Sunday the rooms and houses is pretty nais [nice] I saw the room where the boys sleep it is a big room with 47 beds in the beds seemes to be all clean and white with white bedclothes the 3 walls of this room is all windows and the half of them windows are all open all the time so that part is sure fine, Arthur let me read a letter he recived from you on his birthday I am sure glad you writes to him as I know letters helps him more than we can realize I had to promise him to write to him twice a week so of course that is the least I can do. I forgot to tell you I got home all O.K. last Sunday evening from Ogden in the buss wagon F.O. was at the inturban at Logan and he took me home in his car mebe next visiting day F.O. or Grace will go to see Abie I hope so any way, you ought to see how Arthurs face gleamed with gladness when he pointed at Floyds line of words he had written in your letter to Arthur for me to read,

I got some clippings I like for you to take time to read them only I hope I do not over do sending you clippings when I read them I think of you all the time and wonder if you vont like to read them. your Dad is no better or worse he been outside this morning chasing the chicken in the snow with the broom the[y] got out some way through the door in the coopers while I was feeding them. I know I have thaught of a lot of things to write to you about but it seemes that I can not think of much when I sit down to write, last Sarturday evening I went up to see Myrtle and her new baby I know she have sent you a card as Verna came down to write your addrass, Myrtle and baby is doing fin[e] the baby is sure cute it got a round full face and black long hair and hands as big as Nee Rayes now.

I will close and get some dinner for us give my love to Floyd, Lovis do be sure to hold to the iron rod wich is the word of God. Love and x ses from your

                                    Ma C.J. Peterson
It is now 1 15 p m  we had our dinner and while I was eating I thaugth of a few things I like to write and tell you about, your Dad looked at the letter I wrote this forenoon and he said no body can read that blotched up letter and for me to use a leadpencil I put a bran[d] new pen in the penholder before I begun writting your letter but I belive it is this cheap notebook tablet paper that makes it blotch like that as it is loose and I am hard or heavy on my hand I got a letter from Joe last sarturday he was well and counting the time when he can return to Sidney.

he said the[y] did not stayed in Santa Cruz long enouph so he could go to see you , in a letter a few letters back he sure wrote a sassy letter to me I must of said something that did not suited him it sure made me feel awful sorry I can not now remember what I had wrote but it must have been something like advise and I never meant anything wrong but Grace read the letter and she said how funny for Joe to write like that to you he said he knew what he was a doing and did not care what any body think. In one of your letters you said you like to see Joe and talk to him and give him a word of advise as that would not hurt any body to be advised inspecial if you will listen the great man Solomon he says if we will obey counsuls you are in safety I know if I had obeyed counsuls I had in a masure [measure] at times been better off now dear Lovis I dont like for you to tell Joe this, it hurt me so bad I thaugth I had to tell you, Joe have wrote twice to me since he wrote that letter and them letters seemed a little better I sure got snubbed of so now I have almost lost the desire to write and I rather cry then write, crying is in my program any way so I guess I am to fill it.

I wonder if you have been to Oakland I meet sister Afleck on the street in Logan a week ago last Monday she passed me and then she called me by name and I turned around and we meet and stood and talked to one onother  for a while she asked About you and got surprised you moved from Berkeley she been in Logan for two mounths but was going back to Oakland in two weeks mebe you will see her and then you know that Mrs Pickett and Mrs Afleck are sister

Charlie Nyman came in here last evening to call for Pa to go to meeting he sure looks bad he is a very lonesome man now he sat and pointed at his stocking a crying and saying theese are stockings my vife knitt for me Vera sent me over a large pumpkin one that growed in her dooryard from the seed I gave her that you sent me the pumpkins is sure grand looking Vera raised a lot of them Gus and Graces buisness is fine FO. Works for them now and he is doing fine Grace says

Pa says for you to come + get him out of the snow, ha ha. I got a little cold something I never had all last winter in all that cold weather.
