Our dear sweet Baby Lovis. Here I am again with my lead pencil I belive I have been to town onece since I made exuses about the leadpencil and then I forgot all about baying [buying] writting material and I do not know when I will go to town so I dont like to wait any longer to write to you as I am way behind now answering your letters.

The wisthle [whistle] just blowed 12 in town I been picking and picking all forenoon putting fruit and pickles away that I put upp yesterday, Gus and Grace & family, F.O. and family all came home last evening and the[y] all had supper here they did not knew each other a comming neither did I so it was a surprise to us all I did not let them do the dishes as I knew they were tired Annie had washed and Grace had stood by the bench all day a baking so for onece we sat and visited and played we were sociable I have washed the dishes this morning

We today recived the picture off you two happy sweethearts you sure looks natural and we thank you ever so much for it I am going to have it framed and put it were [where] I can see it all the time. We thank you for the Julebi paper and also for the Booklet on Poultry Disease I am sure Bishop Kemp will enjoy reading that kind off Book so you send him one direckt from you he got two long chicken sheds built across the street from his place north he bougth sister Merrills land I guess you know she had a chunk off land east off Kings and west off Ashlimans.

We are glad to hear you are both fine. your Dad Is not feeling as good again now he cauphs a good deal and he looks bad but he is upp every day and gets around yesterday he went in to Uncle S. place to pick upp apples for the pigs he rode in with Stauffer to the 9th North and he stayed all day and came home at 6 30 p m with Crawfords

I wonder if you have seen Joe now I wonder how he is I guess We will soon hear from him I hope he is well give him my love when or if you see him I am trying to make the best off his love affair but when I think how dissapointed Minnie is and will be when her Joe wanders away from her faith I can or sympathize with her and I asks myself whoes fault is it is it mine? and then I feel sorry & I pray to the Lord to forgive me if He can forgive me as I know it is my duty to teach my children the Gospel and if I dont I am held responsible.

I am afraid I am not answering your letters and so if theere is things I leave out if you plaese reminds me I be glad to answer you ask me why Grace dont write but she told me last nigth she had just wrote a long letter to you so I guess she has told you why she had waited so long to write. When she looked ast your picture last nigth the tears came to her eyes she will be very dissapointed if you dont give her one off them pictures so plaese send her one soon. you asks about Laura Merrill, I do not know any thing about her as it is pretty quite [quiet] about her but I understand she goes to A.C. I meet her one day by the 5th Ward meeting house comming from AC carying a lot of books I saw sister Merrill at the Relif Sosity doings at the gymnasium she asked for you and said for me to give you her love. she is as sweet as ever.

We got nice weather here now but rather cold theere is snow on the top off the mountains it stormed east off us yesterday but we did not got it only the cold breeze or the cold wave as you know how it gets the people here have started to dig their beets and they will soon start with their apples, I shall get a job in the apples as soon as the[y] starts I want to earn some monny. I recived such a sweet letter from Abie last Sarturday the best letter I or we had since he left he said that the place seemes better to him every day he is going to take some animails down to the state fair 4 horses, 7 cows, & 4 calfs he must be taken care of them animails as he says he curries them 4 times a day and onece at midnight. you asks how long I think he got to stay down in Ogedn well I do not know when Grace and I was down theere the first time to gather Grace spoke to the Superentendent and he said then that Arthur got a long time in head off him to stay but it all depends upp on his own conduckt. I dont remember if I told you Grace called upp the institution one time when we did not heard from Abie as we exspeckted and the Suprentendent answered very kindly and said Arthur was alrigth and they have not had one minuts troubble with him since the time he was looked [locked] upp in a dark cell for 7 a 9 days on bare bread and water him and two other boys left the grounds but did not get very far only a few hours before they was brougth back they boys said they wanted to go where they could smoke.

Dearest Lovis this was one off my trying expirience and I guess you will know how I felt when I get through telling you all about it, it happened when arthur been down there about 4 weeks and on the second visiting day after Arthur got down theere F.O. and family Annies sis Gorgia and I went down it being the first time I went, Well we did not suspision anything off the kind altho we noticed Abie had not wrote as often as he did at first well when we got down theere F.O. called at the Office and we where [were] sitting in the car and we waited and waited for F.O. to come and we could not imagen why F.O. stayed, well by and by FO came and then he told us Abie was in jail and we were not permitted to see him the Suprentendent took F.O. to the jail to see Abie and F.O. said Abie cried and asked Suprentendent if he could see his Grandma when I had come so far to see him but he was denied. F.O. said Abie was as thin as a rail and he had bread stuck in between the irons in the door off the cell all over what he could not eat and the cell was pitched dark. and when the time was for him to get out he was to weak for work but still they put him out in the field to handle that heavy Lincoln hay fork and that was the time he got his hand hurt,

now dear Lovis you may know how I felt or how we all felt. F.O. he could not hardley speak to tell us when he came to the car and he did not speak one word all they way home and I never felt any worst in all my life so you see the boys are punished pretty severly and I vont let on to Abie but no body can tell me that that place is a nice place, I have not told you this before as I know you would feel bad but as it is past and Abie is now doing fine I thaugth I tell you. but plaese do not let on when you write to him that you know this I know you love him all the same I do to love him as much as ever and more I belive it sure hurt me and when I now look at Andrew B & Follett & Loui Nelson I dont like to feel hateful but when I see I am to meet them I turn my head off course it was a dirty trick Abie done but nothing worst than thoose men did which they were young and what Folletts boys are doing to day and Andrew B, a cheeting every change [chance] he has, And Lou Nelson have no experience and he is a hartless upstart off a man and like to show off in his Authority well I guess you know

I guess I will close and write again soon lots off Love to Floyd and you from your Mother.
