Oil Indications at Arbon Good.

Large Flow of Gas is Encountered at 1930 Feet At Moab
Well.
Throwing out rocks, hurling out the tools and becoming a
seething volcano of flame which was ignited form sparks throw off by the
contact of rock & steel, the Mid-West-Utah Southern oil Well came in last
Thursday. This well is located on the Colorado River seven miles southwest of
Moab, 35 miles south of Thompson, the nearest station on the Denver & Rio
Grande railroad.
The
drillers at the well were eating their morning meal when the well started
“Blowing” itself in and soon it was flowing at the rate of 350 barrels of oil
and three million feet of gas per day. The develop0ment of a gushes well at
this location will open up giagantic possibilities of finding oil in the huge
Carboniferoius area of Utah and Southern Idaho.
These
structures are known to exist from the Arbon Valley Dome south to Great Salt
Lake and contenue intermittently southward across the state of Utah to the
Colorado River. This enormous area now that it is known that the lower
carboniferous contains a high grade green oil will be tested for producing
structures. The well is now burning and according to information received by
the officers of the Gem State Petroleum Company, the first effort to extinguish
it have been unsuccessful. Burning oil is spouting over 400 fett in the air,
The gas flow is not a large one and it is thought that the well can be put
under control soon.
This
production was found at 2028 feet in the lower carboniferious The same
formations the Arbon Valley well is drilling in. This test has reached a depth
of a little over 2100 feet and local people who are interested in it are on
tip-toe since the news came last evening of the great discovery in Utah.
H.C.
Harris the geologist of the local company made this statement to day, “I am
greatly pleased with the news about this well as it proves the position that I
have maintained in regard to Western carboniferous areas. Some opinion in the
past have held that these rocks would not be producing west of the Rocky
Mountains and if found producing would contain a low grade oil. Both these
opinions are over thrown by this gusher.
The
information we have encountered agrees to a remarkable extend with the Moab
Well, The[y] have cased three times and so have we. Their last casing was set
at 1990 feet and ours at 1930 feet. The Showing we have had especially last
week, when we struck a large flow of sulpher smelling gas led us to believe
that we will soon strike a commercial flow of oil or gas.
The Moab
well also had a gas containing sulphur and our showing are greenish in color
corresponding with their discovery. This is great News for both Utah and Idaho
oil men.

I have copyed this just for curiosity and will send it to
you see what you think about it, If they get oil in that well at Arbon I
suppose they will be digging more well, beginning on Annies land ha ha ha.
Mail this to Joe, as I like for him to read the News, ha
ha. It is rather to much nor not nessisary to copy this twice. Joes addrass is
still

Pedro Calif.
The Paper I copyed this from is Gus & Graces it comes
in our box every friday and then they get it when the[y] come down or else I
sent it to Preston.
